April 22 is Earth Day, but for us every day is Earth Day. Wondering how you can make a difference every day? Here are some tips.
1. Do you like spending time outside? You can support the Great Global Cleanup and pick up trash while enjoying outdoor activities.
2. Have you ever thought about your personal carbon footprint? You can calculate it here and make changes to reduce it.
3. Switch to renewable energy! It’s one of the most immediate actions you can take to lower your carbon footprint.
4. One of the most important environmental problems that we face today is plastic pollution. Calculate your personal plastic consumption and follow these simple steps: pledge to a reusable grocery bag, use a reusable water bottle, and avoid single-use plastic items -- instead buy products in glass or paper.
5. Fight food waste by composting! Learn how you can compost.
6. Call or email your local leaders and tell them that climate change should be the top priority. Urge them to ban plastic bags and other single-use plastic items.
7. Think where you’re buying your food. Buy local food to reduce the distance from farm to fork. Buy straight from the farm, your local farmers’ market, or join a local food co-op.
8. Practice sustainable fashion! Donate your old clothes or bring it to a second-hand store instead of throwing them out. When you need something, consider buying vintage items.
9. Small steps count! Take a shorter shower and use a water-saving showerhead.
10. Save electricity and turn off lights when you leave the room.
Happy Earth Day!
